Pop-Up CLE: The Biden-Harris Student Debt Relief Plan

The Biden-Harris Student Debt Relief Plan:  Key Takeaways, Pitfalls and Options if this Relief is not Enough

Presented by Kenneth L. Neeley and Lisa C. Thompson

On August 24, 2022, the Biden-Harris Administration announced its student debt relief plan which includes:  $10,000 - $20,000 debt cancellation and various new programs to ELIGIBLE borrowers.  THE TIME IS NOW to determine if you, your clients, your friends or your family are eligible for the relief that is being provided.  There will be no more relief offered.  October 31, 2022 is just one of the upcoming deadlines to apply for public student loan forgiveness.  The recount/audit of every student loan borrower's account starts in October and it will allow borrowers previously on ineligible programs to count payments made under those programs as part of the correct program.  Payments on all student loans resume January 1, 2023.  This seminar will provide an overview of the student loan relief that is now available and the time-sensitive actions that need to be taken.  Do not miss out on the relief that is available to all student loan borrowers.  In addition, this seminar will provide a discussion of the status of private and federal student loan discharge ability and possible upcoming Department of Education guidance on student loans in bankruptcy.

Kenneth L. Neeley is a passionate entrepreneur and the owner of the Neeley Law Firm, PLC – a bankruptcy and debt resolution firm located in Chandler. He loves all things techie or creative (or preferably both). His clients appreciate how well he can explain debt relief options in plain language.

Yet, for some reason he has a much harder time explaining himself to his wife in plain language. Fortunately, she still seems to understand somehow. He has five amazing kiddos, ages 9 to 20.

Professionally, he is most proud of his awesome staff and his two published appellate wins for consumer debtors: In re. Gray, 523 B.R. 170 (9th Cir. BAP 2014) and In re. Neidorf, 534 B.R. 369 (9th Cir. BAP 2015).
